Personal Stories – Team Building Activity

Purpose:
Foster authentic connections and deepen mutual understanding by sharing personal stories that reveal values, experiences, and aspirations.
The Activity:
- Form small groups of 3-4 team members.
- Each person takes turns sharing a personal story that has significantly shaped who they are.
- The storyteller speaks openly and honestly; group members listen actively and without interruption.
- When one person is sharing, everyone listens attentively without interrupting or commenting.
- To ensure everyone has a chance to speak, keep each participant’s sharing brief—around 1-2 minutes per person.
- Continue until everyone in the small group has shared a story.
- After all the groups are done, ask the whole group: “What is the meaning of this activity?” Allow anyone who wants to share to do so briefly.
Benefits of This Team Building Activity:
- Facilitates genuine emotional connections by sharing meaningful personal experiences.
- Builds empathy and trust as team members see different facets of each other’s lives.
- Encourages vulnerability, strengthening the foundation for open communication.
- Inspires a sense of shared humanity and common purpose within the team.
